We are excited to announce the addition of Paul Carney as Merritt’s new CFO/COO. Paul, who is transitioning from Merritt’s board, brings over twenty years of experience in affordable housing and community development in both the nonprofit and corporate sectors. Paul previously served as the CFO for Tenderloin Neighborhood Development Corporation in San Francisco where he was responsible for risk management, finance, and asset management. He has also worked for Devine & Gong, Union Bank, JP Morgan Chase, CBRE Capital Markets and HUD.
“Paul is a dynamic addition to the Merritt Team,” said Ari Beliak President & CEO of Merritt. “His perspective as a former board member, dedication, and breadth of experience will be instrumental in achieving Merritt’s ambitious goals as laid out in Merritt’s new Strategic Plan (more on this in early 2022) to support the development and preservation of affordable housing in California.”
“I am excited to join Merritt as it grows to meet the needs of California’s affordable housing developers,” shared Paul. “Merritt has served the affordable housing community for more than thirty years, and after working with the team during my time on the board to craft the organization’s vision, I look forward to contributing to Merritt’s expanding role as a key funder and excellent partner in addressing California’s affordable housing crisis.”
Paul holds an MPP from the Harvard Kennedy School and B.A. from Stanford. He also serves on the board of Building Futures for Women & Children. Paul lives in the East Bay with his wife, three high school-aged children, and two dogs.
